Corpus Christi Medical Center is pleased to announce the appointment of Dean H. Hommer, M.D. as chief medical officer, effective today. Hommer will have oversight for clinical and quality services across Corpus Christi Medical Center’s two acute care hospitals, psychiatric hospital and three freestanding emergency rooms located in Corpus Christi, Portland and Rockport, Texas. His primary focus will be to work with the medical staff and other clinicians to enhance Corpus Christi Medical Center’s commitment to quality care, evidenced-based practice and patient safety.

Hommer has over 30 years of operational, clinical and strategic healthcare experience. Prior to joining Corpus Christi Medical Center, Hommer served as chief of staff and operations officer and chief medical officer at William Beaumont Army Medical Center in El Paso. He has held clinical leadership roles at Brooke Army Medical Center in San Antonio and Womack Army Medical Center in Fort Bragg, North Carolina.
He holds a Master of Health Services Administration from the University of Michigan and a Master of Business Administration from the University of North Carolina, Chapel Hill. Hommer completed his medical degree at the Uniformed Services University of the Health Sciences located in Bethesda, Maryland and his residency in Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation and fellowship in Pain Medicine at the Walter Reed Army Medical Center in Washington, DC. He is a certified physician executive by the American Association for Physician Leadership and is a fellow of the American Academy of Physical Medicine and Rehabilitation, the American Association of Neuromuscular and Electrodiagnostic Medicine, and the American College of Healthcare Executives.
