At our breast center, we offer regular checkups, diagnostic screenings and use the latest imaging technologies and treatments.

Corpus Christi breast imaging services

Breast screenings are the first step in evaluating breast disorders, and a mammogram is the best way to find breast cancer for most women of screening age. Our center offers breast imaging and diagnostic services that help us identify early signs of cancer and other abnormalities. We offer a wide variety of imaging services, including:

3D mammography

A 3D mammogram provides a clearer image of your breast tissue and may uncover breast cancer that would otherwise be hidden by overlying breast tissue.

Breast biopsy

If your symptoms or the results of an imaging test suggest you might have breast cancer, you may need a breast biopsy. During a biopsy, tissue or sometimes fluid is removed from the suspicious area. The removed cells are examined under a microscope and further tested to check for the presence of breast cancer.

Breast magnetic resonance imaging (MRI)

A breast MRI uses magnetic fields to capture multiple images of your breast. According to the American Cancer Society, a screening breast MRI and a yearly mammogram are recommended for certain women at high risk for breast cancer.

Breast ultrasound

This imaging test uses sound waves to look at the inside of your breasts. Ultrasounds can show certain breast changes, like fluid-filled cysts or lumps, that can be harder to see on mammograms.

Chest X-ray

A chest X-ray may be done to see if the cancer has spread to your lungs. You will be exposed to a small amount of radiation during a chest X-ray.

Computed tomography (CT) scan

A CT scan is an X-ray technique that makes 2-dimensional slices or cross-sectional images of your body.

CT scans are not used routinely to evaluate the breast but can be used to look at the chest and/or abdomen to see if breast cancer has spread to other organs, like the lungs or liver.

Mammogram

A mammogram is a low-dose X-ray of your breasts used to detect breast cancer. For many women, mammograms are the best way to find or detect breast cancer early when it’s small and easier to treat.

We also offer genetic testing to determine if you have a gene mutation that puts you at increased risk of developing breast cancer. Genetic testing isn't done routinely, but your doctor may recommend it based on your family history and personal situation. Your results will help your physician determine the best treatment options for you. If you have already been diagnosed with breast cancer, they can help you and your physician decide if there are steps you can take now to lower your breast cancer risk.
