Corpus Christi Medical Center - Doctors Regional Certified for Orthopedic Care.
Corpus Christi Medical Center recognized by The Joint Commission as the first hospital in Nueces County to earn Disease-Specific Care Certification, for total hip and total knee replacement surgery.
Corpus Christi Medical Center (CCMC) is the first hospital in Nueces County to earn The Joint Commission’s Gold Seal of Approval®, Disease-Specific Care Certification, for Total Hip and Total Knee Replacement Surgery. The certification award officially designates CCMC as an Orthopedic Center of Excellence and recognizes the hospital’s continuous compliance to national standards for health care quality and safety in disease-specific care.
CCMC underwent a rigorous on-site review in November 2014. A Joint Commission expert evaluated CCMC for compliance with standards of care specific to the needs of patients and families, including infection prevention and control, leadership and medication management. Certification requirements for joint replacement programs address three areas: compliance with consensus-based national standards, effective use of evidence-based clinical practice guidelines and analysis of a minimum of four performance measures specific to the joint replacement population.
“Achieving Joint Commission Disease-Specific Care Certification in Total Hip and Total Knee Replacement Surgery for Corpus Christi Medical Center is a major step toward elevating our standard of care, instilling confidence in the community we serve,” said Jay Woodall, CEO at Corpus Christi Medical Center.
“We’re proud to achieve distinction as an Orthopedic Center of Excellence for Orthopedic Joint Replacement. The medical staff and professionals at Doctors Regional are committed to a higher standard of care. Our patients benefit with better outcomes after their hip and knee replacement procedures and that’s what matters most,” stated Kathleen Rubano, CNO at Corpus Christi Medical Center.
The Joint Commission’s Disease-Specific Care Certification Program, launched in 2002, is designed to evaluate clinical programs across the continuum of care. Certification requirements address three core areas: compliance with consensus-based national standards; effective use of evidence-based clinical practice guidelines to manage and optimize care; and an organized approach to performance measurement and improvement activities.
"In achieving Joint Commission certification, Corpus Christi Medical Center has demonstrated its commitment to the highest level of care for its orthopedic patients," says Michele Sacco, M.S., interim executive director, Certification Programs. “Certification is a voluntary process and I commend Corpus Christi Medical Center for successfully undertaking this challenge to elevate its standard of care and instill confidence in the community it serves.”
