HCA Healthcare Gulf Coast Division has announced the promotion of David Irizarry to chief executive officer of Corpus Christi Medical Center effective September 1, 2024. Irizarry replaces Eric Evans, who transferred to HCA Healthcare Sky Ridge Medical Center in June.
Irizarry currently serves as chief executive officer for HCA Healthcare Valley Regional Medical Center in Brownsville, Texas. In this role, he started the neuro endovascular program to expand the neuroscience service line, worked on partnerships to enhance gastroenterology and cardiovascular care in the community, and championed enhanced services for oncologic patients through navigation services and tumor boards. Irizarry was instrumental in launching a regional Graduate Medical Education (GME) program in partnership with Rio Grande Regional Hospital and the University of Texas Rio Grande Valley School of Medicine. His commitment to colleague engagement resulted in Valley Regional being named a Best Place to Work by Modern Healthcare for the first time in its history and for three years in a row.
A Rio Grande Valley native, Irizarry started his career at Rio Grande Regional Hospital in 2002 as a volunteer. He later excelled as an administrative intern in 2011 while completing his graduate studies at Texas A&M Health Science Center in McAllen. Irizarry was soon promoted to associate director of supply chain, and then supply chain director with Parallon. In 2014 he was named administrator of Rio Grande Surgery Center, and in 2019 was promoted to chief operating officer. Irizarry was named chief executive officer at Valley Regional Medical Center in March 2022.
Irizarry holds a master's degree in public health with a concentration in health policy and management from Texas A&M Health Science Center and a bachelor of science in biology and political science from The University of Texas at Pan American. He has co-written various journal articles, posters, and presentations in healthcare throughout his career. Some of Irizarry's leadership activities and organization memberships include the American College of Healthcare Executives, Leadership McAllen, Rio Grande Valley Partnership, and a Fellow of the Exito: Latino Cancer Research Leadership Training.
David will oversee both Valley Regional Medical Center and Corpus Christi Medical Center until a new CEO is named for Valley Regional Medical Center.
