CCMC becomes region's first Center of Excellence in Robotic Surgery
Corpus Christi Medical Center (CCMC) Bay Area has achieved accreditation from the Surgical Review Corporation (SRC) as a Center of Excellence in Robotic Surgery. This accreditation confirms that CCMC has met nationally and internationally recognized standards for delivering quality patient care and safety in robotic surgery.
"Corpus Christi Medical Center has an extraordinary team of physicians, nurses, and clinicians that work together to provide safe, evidence-based care," said Eric Evans, CEO of Corpus Christi Medical Center." This accreditation further confirms to our medical staff and community that we are a leader in minimally-invasive robotically assisted surgery and demonstrates our dedication to the highest standards of care for patients."
Established in 2011, the robotic surgery program at CCMC Bay Area is the first accredited program in the Corpus Christi region. CCMC has one of the most extensive robotic-assisted programs with multiple robotic devices located on the CCMC Bay Area and Doctors Regional campuses. Surgeons on staff have performed approximately 9,000 robotic-assisted procedures since the program's inception. CCMC currently offers robotically assisted urology, gynecology, and bariatric surgeries. Abdominal and colorectal robotically assisted procedures are also performed. Benefits of robotic surgery may include less blood loss, reduced pain post-surgery, less scarring, shorter hospital stays, and a reduced risk of infection.
"I am proud of our highly skilled and dedicated robotic surgery team for achieving this accreditation; it elevates the quality of care and safety we provide, and that's what matters most," said Michael Ewing, M.D., medical director of surgical services at Corpus Christi Medical Center.
Healthcare organizations and surgeons seeking accreditation by SRC undergo an extensive self-assessment and inspection process. This includes physicians, nurses, and administrators actively involved in the accredited program. The inspection is consultative and educational, presenting best practices to help an organization or surgeon improve its care and services.
"We're proud to recognize Corpus Christi Medical Center for their commitment to advancing and providing quality care for all patients," said Gary M. Pratt, CEO of SRC. "This accreditation signals that this hospital is among the best in this specialty and is dedicated to delivering the highest level of care possible."
