Diabetes is a life-long health challenge requiring that the patient and his family take responsibility for maintaining his good health. Whether diabetes affects an adult, child or pregnant woman, the Diabetes Management Services is here to help patients effectively meet the challenges of diabetes.

We operate with a team approach and believe this concept provides the best, most long-lasting results for our patients. Our specially-trained staff works with the patient, family and physician to personalize each plan.

• Inpatient: Essential Diabetes Management Survival Skills Training
• Medical Nutrition Therapy

Diabetes Self-Management

Our diabetes educator provides inpatient management programs designed to help our patients improve their diabetes self-care skills and enhance their quality of life, including:

• Insulin administration
• Blood glucose monitoring
• Personal healthcare guidelines
• Nutrition management

Could You Have Diabetes?

Approximately 500,000 new cases of diabetes are diagnosed every year. More than 16 million Americans are believed to have diabetes, but half are not aware that they may have the disease. Symptoms vary or may not even be apparent. A simple blood screening is the first step. Common symptoms of diabetes include:

• Extreme thirst
• Frequent urination
• Intense hunger
• Blurred vision
• Unexplained weight loss or weight gain
• Weakness and fatigue
• Irritability
• Itchy skin
• Nausea and vomiting
• Skin infections
• Numbness or tingling in fingers or toes
• Sores that are slow to heal (especially on the feet)

Diabetes Management programs are available to individuals with diabetes by a physician's referral only. If you do not have a personal physician, you may select a physician on the Corpus Christi Medical Center website, visit www.ccmedicalcenter.com.
